Sandia National Laboratories Completes Independent Testing and Validation of Capybara Energy Storage Technology

Capybara Energy has completed independent testing and validation of its aqueous carbon-based energy storage technology at Sandia National Laboratories through the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Electricity.

The evaluation represents a major milestone in Capybara's progression from laboratory development to commercial-scale energy storage. Sandia's work included system testing, technical evaluation, safety review, techno-economic analysis, site visits, and extensive collaboration between Sandia and Capybara engineers and scientists.

The technology uses carbon electrodes and an aqueous electrolyte to store energy electrostatically, providing a fundamentally different approach to stationary energy storage. Capybara systems are designed around abundant materials, non-flammable chemistry, long operating life, domestic supply chains, and modular deployment from individual systems to multi-megawatt-hour installations.

Independent validation has been a central part of Capybara's development strategy. Rather than relying solely on internally generated performance claims, the company worked with Sandia to subject the technology to outside technical evaluation and establish an independent foundation for continued scale-up and commercial deployment.

“This took years of work, thousands of hours of engineering, and an unreasonable amount of persistence from our team,” said Matthew Millard, Founder and CEO of Capybara Energy. “Sandia brought an extraordinary level of technical depth and scientific rigor to the process. Our technology is better because of it, and we are incredibly excited about what comes next.”

With independent testing complete and the report now public, Capybara is advancing commercial manufacturing and deployment of its energy storage systems.
